Robert Lustig, MD, is a pediatric neuroendocrinologist who kicked up a big storm when his YouTube video Sugar: The Bitter Truth went viral. Ever since then, he has been explaining why the obesity epidemic is not a moral failing. Tiny babies with serious weight problems could not possibly be guilty of the sins of gluttony and sloth, so what else is going on?
Dr. Lustig makes the argument in his book, Fat Chance, and in our one-hour radio interview, that what we are eating is responsible for our national weight problems. Ever since the food industry started selling us on low-fat foods (for better weight control) the problem has been accelerating. The reason? Low fat processed foods are full of sugar and fructose, unlike any foods we find in nature. (Even fruit, which is high in fructose, is full of fiber to change the way we metabolize it.) You can get all the details in his compelling book and entertaining interview. We offer a CD of the show together with the paperback book so you can get the maximum benefit from Dr. LustigÕs expertise and advice.
