Powerful acid-suppressing drugs like Prilosec, Prevacid and Nexium may be hard to stop. When such drugs are discontinued suddenly, patients frequently experience horrible heartburn. Even people with no symptoms before taking the medicines reported suffering reflux after withdrawal. Perhaps it is time for physicians to exercise more caution when prescribing such medications.
