People who are overweight are at higher risk for health problems such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. Now add psychological depression to that list. People who perceive themselves as being overweight frequently suffer from stress, feelings of inadequacy, and guilt.
These moods can contribute to a vicious cycle. When you’re feeling blue, exercise is less appealing, and you may be tempted to treat yourself with sweet foods that are high in fat. The more you eat, the more weight you gain and the worse your mood.
Breaking the link on these behaviors will require both counseling and coaching in a multi-disciplinary approach.
