Vitamin A May Offer Protection from Melanoma

Vitamin A supplements have gotten some bad press of late. Research has not demonstrated a benefit and there is even some concern that vitamin A supplementation may lead to weakened bones. New research, however, suggests that people who get more vitamin A from supplements have a lower likelihood of developing melanoma. The research was published in the prestigious Journal of Investigative Dermatology. Nearly 70,000 people were included in the study database. Those who took vitamin A in the form of retinol had as much as a 40 percent lower risk of being diagnosed with melanoma.
