With cancer looming large in the causes of death in America, it is little wonder that a cancer diagnosis is frightening. While conventional cancer therapies such as surgery, radiation and chemotherapy are critical, many people would like additional ways to try to overcome the disease, prevent its recurrence as much as possible or at least maximize their quality of life while they are in treatment. Many would like to learn about some unconventional approaches to treating cancer.
Inexpensive, Available Generic Medicines to Prevent Recurrence:
In our three-part series on unconventional approaches to treating cancer, we talked to some of the top experts to get information that is not easily available elsewhere. Vidula and Dr. Vikas Sukhatme of GlobalCures.org described a number of readily available and inexpensive generic medicines that might be beneficial against certain types of cancer. They discussed how clinical research on scientifically promising, cost-effective treatments for cancer could make treatment more readily accessible. How might old drugs such as aspirin or metformin be used against cancer? The Sukhatmes suggested some practical ways to engage the immune system to reduce the risk of cancer recurrence.
Mobilizing the Immune System with Healing Sound:
Mobilizing the immune system was also a theme for the second interview in the series with Dr. Mitch Gaynor. Dr. Gaynor practices integrative oncology, which includes both conventional treatments and the use of sound and meditation to alleviate stress. Stress has a negative impact on the immune system, so listening to the sounds of crystal or Tibetan bowls for a daily meditation can help strengthen it against a recurrence.
Unexpected Cancer Remissions:
In the third interview, psychotherapist Kelly Turner talked about interviewing numerous people who had undergone a documented radical remission of cancer. To her surprise, most of these people identified similar factors when asked to explain their unanticipated survival. What are the nine key factors that seem to make a big difference? How do these factors boost the immune system to help people survive cancer against all odds?
