A different approach to controlling high blood pressure was surprisingly successful. A study in Iowa demonstrated that pharmacist collaboration with physicians was much better at lowering systolic blood pressure than usual physician care. Three fourths of the patients being co-managed by the physician-pharmacist team met their blood pressure goals compared to only half of those under usual care. This study offers a great demonstration of the value of teamwork in health care.
