Research published in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives suggests that mice exposed in utero to BPA have reduced glucose tolerance and increased insulin resistance. That means they are more likely to develop metabolic changes similar to type 2 diabetes.
The mothers also experienced negative consequences. They gained more weight and had higher insulin levels. The investigators conclude that BPA may be a risk factor for diabetes. No one knows whether this applies to humans, but there is increasing concern about early life exposure to BPA.
