Narcotic use has increased over the past decade, and that raises the risk of abuse. Now the FDA has approved a new formulation of the pain medicine OxyContin. The new formulation uses a resin to control the release of the medication, oxycodone, over a 24-hour period. This will make it much more difficult to break, chew, cut or crush the tablets and thus should prevent people from snorting or injecting the drug.
