Q. I used Domeboro solution to get rid of my plantar wart. I soaked my foot in the solution once a day. Within two weeks’ time, the wart fell off and didn’t return.
A. Domeboro solution is an old-fashioned approach. The aluminum acetate powder is dissolved in water to treat skin irritations such as athlete’s foot and poison ivy. We did not know it would heal plantar warts.
While aluminum acetate is a low-tech approach to a painful problem that can be hard to treat, we are hesitant to recommend exposing delicate skin to aluminum solutions. You will find other approaches to getting rid of plantar warts in our book, The People’s Pharmacy Quick & Handy Home Remedies. They range from banana peel, duct tape and garlic to Listerine, vinegar or turmeric applied topically. Soaking the foot in hot (not scalding) water (110 degrees F) for 30 to 90 minutes a week may be helpful.
