Drug manufacturer Novartis is in hot water with the FDA. The company has had to recall many of its Excedrin and Bufferin pain reliever bottles and shut down its manufacturing plant in Lincoln, Nebraska. Some bottles of NoDoz and Gas-X Prevention have also been recalled. The bottles may contain broken or chipped pills, some of which may be products other than those named on the label. The most shocking problems that have been uncovered at the plant could have resulted in powerful prescription pain relievers such as Percocet getting mixed in with some of the OTC drugs.
FDA inspectors have charged that Novartis failed to investigate properly the more than 200 consumer complaints the company received last year. Consumers should return bottles of NoDoz and Excedrin with expiration dates of December, 2014, or earlier. Bufferin and Gas-X should be returned if the expiration date is December, 2013, or earlier.
