More Medicines Increase ED Risk

The more medications men take, the higher their risk of erectile difficulties. That is the finding from a study of nearly 40,000 men who were part of the California Men’s Health Study. ED was reported by about 16 percent of the men taking up to two medications. Almost 20 percent of those who swallowed three to five prescription pills daily complained of erectile dysfunction. The prevalence of ED was over 30 percent for men taking 10 or more medicines daily. The investigators controlled for factors such as hypertension, diabetes, smoking and age and still found an increased likelihood of ED linked to increasing use of medications.
