You don’t have to eat red meat to benefit from a low-carb diet. A study conducted by scientists at Johns Hopkins shows that losing weight, whether with a low-carb or a low-fat regimen has cardiovascular benefits. In the six-month study, volunteers on the low-carb plan lost nearly 29 pounds, while those following a low-fat diet lost about 19 pounds. The 60 volunteers were randomized to the diet plans and all participated in moderate exercise. The investigators report that those who lost the most belly fat had the greatest improvement in artery flexibility.
