British researchers have come up with an odd observation that may help with screening men for prostate cancer. A study of more than 4500 men found that those whose right index finger was longer than the ring finger were one-third less likely to develop prostate cancer than men with shorter index fingers.
The investigators point out that relative finger length is established in the womb and appears to be related to testosterone exposure. Previous studies have shown connections between finger length and such unexpected traits as confidence, reaction times, athletic ability and fertility. The scientists suggest that prenatal hormone levels can have an impact many years later.
