Q. Can you please tell me what happened to Excedrin and when it will be back on the market?
I’ve always used Excedrin for headaches and backache and it worked better for me than anything else on the market. Will I ever be able to take it again?
A. Excedrin was removed from shelves in January 2012 due to problems with quality control. The official explanation for the recall is “because the products may contain stray tablets, capsules, or caplets from other products, or contain broken or chipped tablets.”
The company expects to have Excedrin Migraine back on store shelves in October. They are not saying when Excedrin Extra Strength will return to the market. Both products contain exactly the same ingredients: 250 mg acetaminophen, 250 mg of aspirin and 65 mg caffeine.
We offer many ways to handle headache pain in our Guide to Headaches & MIgraines. In it we discuss some common causes of headaches and migraine triggers as well as nondrug approaches such as riboflavin, acupuncture, CoQ10 and magnesium. Melatonin or oxygen have been used successfully for cluster headaches. We hope one of the approaches mentioned will help you until you can buy Excedrin again.
