Gas, known technically as flatulence, is an inevitable result of human digestion. Excessive gas is a problem, though, and it is one that can be quite a challenge. One reader learned to use fennel seeds to overcome this difficulty.

Can You Use Fennel Seeds to Fight Flatulence?

Q. Over the past six years I’ve had an embarrassing problem: anything I ate gave me gas. I tried everything from PeptoBismol to Gas-X Extra Strength without results.

About six months ago, my mom told me that the husband of her friend used fennel seed for flatulence. When I got back to the States I Googled fennel.

The capsules I ordered arrived yesterday, and I’ve seen a huge difference already. I’ve gone from 30 or 40 farts a day down to about 5 or 6. The capsules aren’t expensive, so I use fennel seeds with every meal.

How Do You Use Fennel Seeds?

A. Fennel seeds have been used to flavor foods such as bread, cheese and sausage. The ancient Egyptians were using it medicinally in 1500 BC.
