Hemorrhoids, while rarely serious, are very common and can be quite unpleasant. We asked gastroenterologist Nicholas Shaheen, MD, Director of the Center for Esophageal Diseases and Swallowing and professor of medicine and epidemiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine and the UNC Gillings School of Public Health, for his advice on how to handle hemorrhoids.
