A Mississippi teenager has achieved amazing success with her online campaign to get the brominated vegetable oil out of popular beverages. Sarah Kavanagh launched a petition in November; this week Pepsi announced it will be reformulating citrus-flavored Gatorade to get the brominated vegetable oil out of it. The manufacturer contends that the additive is safe. It is used to keep the citrus flavor particles suspended throughout the drink. The European Union and Japan do not permit the use of brominated vegetable oil in food products.
