The FDA stands by its decision to return silicone breast implants five years ago. After 14 years off the market, the FDA decided that the benefits of these implants outweighed the potential risks. Now a new analysis by two of the makers of silicone implants shows no evidence of serious harm, particularly breast cancer or infertility. Despite this reassurance, the new report does not state that such implants are free of all risk. Women are still advised to have MRI scans every couple of years to make sure the implants have not ruptured.
