Grandma was right when she said fish is brain food. A study of almost 15,000 elders in China, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, India, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela found that populations with higher fish intake had lower rates of dementia. It’s not just the protein level, say the researchers, because groups that ate more meat had slightly higher rates of confusion and cognitive impairment. This study does not establish a cause-and-effect relationship, though there are reasons to believe that omega-3 fats from fish could benefit the brain.
