On March 14th we celebrated an extra hour of sunlight with our Spring Forward Super Sale: 30% off Aluminum-Free Women’s MoM (milk of magnesia) Deodorant. The MoM Super Sale lasts until March 31, 2016, so now is your chance to save $1.95 on each bottle of Women’s MoM Roll-On Deodorant.
What’s The Problem with Aluminum?
A lot of people have asked us why we make such a big deal about aluminum-free MoM. They may not realize that all antiperspirants must contain aluminum salts in a fairly high concentration. Without aluminum in the formulation, the FDA will not permit any antiperspirant on the market. The FDA seems totally unconcerned about reports linking aluminum to neurotoxicity.
An article in the journal Brain Pathology (March, 2016) notes:
“Aluminum has been associated with neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis [Lou Gehrig’s disease], and dialysis encephalopathy. Many continue to regard aluminum as controversial although increasing evidence supports the implications of aluminum in the pathogenesis of AD. Aluminum causes the accumulation of tau protein and Aβ protein in the brain of experimental animals.”
We suspect that the FDA assumes there is no aluminum absorption from antiperspirants. We wish there was good science to support this premise. An article in the Journal of Trace Elements in Medicine and Biology (April, 2014) states:
“Al [aluminum] chlorohydrate is the active antiperspirant agent in underarm cosmetics and may constitute for Al a key exposure route to the human body and a potential source of damage. An in vitro study has demonstrated that Al from antiperspirant can be absorbed through viable human stripped skin. The potential toxicity of Al has been clearly shown and recent works convincingly argue that Al could be involved in cancerogenic processes.”
Magnesium Instead of Aluminum:
People who shave their underarms may enhance aluminum absorption. Until research confirms that aluminum is absolutely harmless to humans, we think that people should have alternatives. That is why we continue to make milk of magnesia (MoM) roll-on deodorant available. Magnesium is essential for every cell in the body to function normally. Aluminum, on the other hand, is not necessary for any human physiological function.
Does MoM Work?
As far as we can tell there have never been any scientific studies of milk of magnesia to control body odor. That said, people vote with their pocket book.
Women’s MoM gets a 4.35 rating out of a possible 5 stars. Here are just a few recent reviews:
Joyce in Silicon Valley, CA says she is: “Throwing away my drugstore deodorants”:
“I ordered a sample package of all 3 MoM deodorants a couple weeks ago. I’ve been using this one [Women’s]. It’s lightly scented; my husband could use it, and it’s very effective. I have no odor at all with this.”
Tina in Charlotte reports:
“I was desperate to find a solution to my recent notice of odor under my arms. So glad to have found your product. It has saved the day and my sanity! Who wants to worry about body odor? I have no reason to buy anything else. MoM works like a charm and I like the scent too!”
Aracel adds:
“I love this deodorant! Tried it out and it was the best thing that ever happened to me! I always suffered from stinky pits and no deodorant seemed to do the trick until I got this!! Ladies get it, it works! I will use this forever lol!”
