Statins lower cholesterol, of course, but they may also have an unexpected benefit for cancer patients. Danish researchers tracked mortality statistics among citizens who had been diagnosed with cancer, starting in 1995. Those taking statins were about 15 percent less likely to die from their cancer. This epidemiological study should inspire randomized controlled trials of statins to see if they truly do improve cancer survival.
