Enterovirus D68 is spreading across the United States. At last count more than half the states have reported cases of this severe respiratory infection.
The trail of sickened children stretches from California to Massachusetts. With no effective treatment, it is likely that EV-D68 will spread to all 50 states within the next week or two.
Early symptoms are suggestive of a cold, but some children, especially those with a history of asthma, can develop wheezing and difficulty breathing. Any child who complains of such symptoms must be seen by a health professional immediately.
