A popular prescription pain reliever may find a new use helping to fight liver cancer. Scientists at Ohio State University have found that combining Celebrex with either of two chemotherapy drugs makes them more effective against liver cancer. This is the fifth most common cancer and very hard to treat. Tissue culture experiments confirmed the results of computer modeling. The chemotherapy drugs in the research were doxorubicin and sorafenib. They are already used for some cancer patients, but before they can be combined with Celebrex, clinical trials will be needed.
