The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have broadened their recommendations for who should be vaccinated against human papillomavirus, or HPV. This virus is responsible for genital warts, which are associated with an increased risk for cervical cancer in women. That is why the vaccine has been recommended for young girls before they begin to be sexually active. Now the CDC says boys can also benefit. The advisory committee recommended that the vaccination be routinely offered to boys as well as girls around the age of 11 or 12.
